Abstract

Most of us will encounter caregiving in some form or another during the course of our lives. This chapter begins by presenting reflections on experiences of caregiving, principally by mothers, firstly to highlight the relational challenges caregivers may face and then consider how creative practice can enhance relationships and overall well-being. The authors’ research and personal reflective accounts are sited within current trends around relational practice before exploring the concept of relational wealth building and a praxis case study example of its application in a multi-generational and family-based community setting. This chapter explores and showcases the empowering potential of values-based relational approaches in research and practice, and argues that developing a deeper understanding of the process of relational wealth building can support further developments in relational practice within community settings.
