Abstract
This presentation reports on doctoral research investigating the career success factors of Egyptian International Medical Graduates (IMGs) employed in the NHS. Drawing on a critical realist qualitative framework, the study employs semi-structured interviews with purposive and maximum variation sampling, with thematic analysis informed by Giddens' Structuration Theory and Barley's model of institutionalisation. The research explores how structural, institutional, and agentive factors interact to shape career trajectories, professional integration, and identity formation among Egyptian IMG doctors working within the UK healthcare system. Preliminary findings highlight the role of social capital, mentorship, and adaptive agency in navigating institutional barriers. The study contributes to emerging literature on IMG workforce development, career studies, and healthcare management, with practical implications for NHS workforce policy and EDI practice.
