Abstract

Unintentional injuries remain a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among children under five, with a persistent socioeconomic gradient contributing to marked inequalities in risk and outcomes. Health education is a core component of UK prevention strategies, yet the evidence base supporting its methodology and effectiveness is lacking. This commentary critically appraises a systematic review of health education interventions for injury prevention in the home, exploring changes to parents’ knowledge, attitudes and behaviour and strategies used to deliver education (Al Mushaikhi et al. 2022). Discussion follows on the implications of the review findings for health and social care practitioners and considers the wider literature on behaviour change models, tailored interventions, multi agency working, methods of delivery and UK guidance.
