Abstract
Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) has emerged as an evolving treatment option for Type 2 Diabetes due to its dual role in glycaemic control and its association with weight loss. There have been growing concerns regarding the possible long-term side effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP1-RAs), including reduction in muscle mass leading to increased fracture risk. To assess the potential additional risks associated with the use of GLP-1RAs in Type 2 diabetic patients, a systematic review was conducted by Tan, Liu & Tang (2025) to evaluate its association with increased fracture risk, bone density, and bone metabolism markers. This commentary aims to critically appraise the methods used within the review by Tan, Liu, & Tang, (2025) and expand upon the findings in the context of clinical practice.
