Abstract

Apicectomy is performed for teeth with a persistent periapical lesion when conventional endodontic treatment has failed or cannot be completed. When the apex or lesion lies towards the palate, it may be of benefit to surgically treat through the palatal tissues. This article illustrates and describes the techniques used to undertake microsurgical endodontics using a palatal approach for maxillary anterior teeth.

CPD/Clinical Relevance:
Dentists should be aware of the palatal approach to apical surgery.
