Abstract

This book is an introductory guide intended to enhance the woodland visitor's enjoyment of their off- grid living experience in this dynamic and magical environment. The focus of contents is typically in seasonal British woodlands. Key factors touched upon by the authors, which are often taken for granted in modern urban life, are positively amplified by entering the woodland space. Considerations are made for; health benefits, environmental impacts, sustainable accommodation demands, and also creative activities to free the imagination and motivate a return to the woodland space. Nine informative chapters are structured to resemble a journey to the woodland, including travel to your woodland retreat, learning about the woodland environment itself, and preparing to depart from the woodland.

TIME - Prepare to slow down - entering the woodland. TRAVEL - Environmental impacts of travel.

ACCOMMODATION - Types of living space.

WATER - Collecting and storing water.

ENERGY - Heat, fuel, fire lighting and cooking.

WOODCRAFT - Carving, wood cutting and splitting. ENVIRONMENT - Trees, plants, birdlife and animals.

ART - Creating art in the woodland space.

LEAVING - Prepare to speed up, leaving the woodland.
