Abstract
Physical Literacy (PL) is increasingly recognised as a central concept in contemporary Physical Education (PE), closely linked to lifelong engagement in physical activity and holistic well-being. Despite strong policy support, its implementation in educational practice, particularly within teacher education, remains overlooked. This chapter presents the ePhyLi project (Promoting Physical Literacy and healthy lifestyles through digital materials for university students) as a best practice example addressing this gap through a structured and practice-oriented approach. The chapter outlines the rationale, development, and implementation of a comprehensive digital learning package designed for prospective PE teachers and educators. The ePhyLi learning package includes a modular e-book, a serious digital game, and an interactive e-learning platform integrating comic-based narratives and scenario-based learning units. These resources aim to support the connection between conceptual understanding and pedagogical application through experiential and reflective learning. The chapter further presents key findings from multi-phase pilot testing conducted across Higher Education institutions in Cyprus, Italy, and France, involving over 100 participants. Results indicate that the integrated use of digital and gamified tools enhances engagement, supports knowledge development, and promotes a deeper understanding of PL. The ePhyLi project demonstrates how digitally enriched, pedagogically coherent approaches can support the meaningful integration of PL into teacher education and contribute to the evolution of PE practice.
